Fuerteventura enjoys over 3000 hours of sunshine each year, which is the main draw for the 1000’s of tourist who visit the island each year.
Of all the Canary Islands Fuerteventura is the one, which is closest to the Africa. There is less than 100kms separating the coast of Fuerteventura from Cape Juby in Morocco. Fuerteventura is also the second largest of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is the largest island.
Many people liken the weather in Fuerteventura to Florida and Mexico but generally you will find the island less humid than say Florida. The winter temperatures still reach 20ºC and in the summer the temperature dial rarely lifts itself above 30ºC.
Fuerteventura is also blessed with some excellent long, sandy beaches that are home to enormous sand dunes. In total there are more than 150 beaches on Fuerteventura although not all of them are sandy.
Each year Fuerteventura plays host to PWA World Windsurfing Championships which are held in July at Sotavento Beach which you will find in the south of the island.
The whole island of Fuerteventura is just under 100km long and 30 kms wide at its widest point. You can fly to Fuerteventura from a number of European Airports and with a number of European Airlines. If you are heading here from the Spanish mainland then you could try Iberia Airlines, Spanair or Aer Europa. From the UK and most other European Countries there is no shortage of Charter airlines that offer regular flights throughout the year.
