The beautiful Island of Gran Canaria offers a varied and rich lush green landscape with sub tropical forest areas and beautiful sandy beaches that offer clear blue seas.

The main mountain peeks at the centre of Gran Canaria extend to over 2000m high and during the cooler winter months they are covered in snow. The highest peek on Gran Canaria is Pico del Nieves.

The capital of the island is Las Palmas. Las Palmas is a picturesque town with an array of various painted houses and is home to the islands main Airport.

The most popular tourist resort in Gran Canaria is Playa del Ingles. The town has a reputation for its wild nightlife and four miles of long sandy beaches. There is also some great shopping to be done in Playa del Ingles and some good restaurants to eat at.

If you like beaches then the best beach to head for is Maspalomas. Maspalomas beach is around 6km long and 1km wide and has the full range of water sports on offer.

In order to fly to Gran Canaria from Europe or the UK you need to allow for a flight time of around 4 hours and it is also worth noting that the clocks on Gran Canaria are an hour behind the Spanish mainland. In fact they are on the same time zone as the UK.

The large national Airlines such as Iberia, Lufthansa and British Airways all fly direct to Gran Canaria and if you are fortunate enough to be flying from the UK then there is also a good selection of low cost airlines to choose from.
